Chinatown Detective Agency: Day One

Client: That Silly Studio | Publisher: Devolver Digital | Release Date: June 2020

Taking over in October 2019, I came on board That Silly Studio as the Producer to help the team finish off the game for release. This was my first instance of working with a team spread across the world, with members in NA, UK and OZ. The main ways I wrangled the crows were:

Pulling together a backlog of items left to do on the project | Scheduling these tasks to estimate together when the project would be fit for release, and relying that to publishers | Organsing weekly meetings across various continents and bi-weekly sprints | Liaising and organising team with external QA and localisation.

Working alongside director Benjamin Donoghue to get 4 slate projects off the ground, one concept would later become Buildings Have Feelings Too. The main ways I made sure we achieved greatness:

Pushed forward development with concept ideas | Built Game Design Documents | Compiled and submitted funding applications & pitch decks | Created schedules & budgets | Established a project outline that later secure funding & partnership with Merge Games.

Working with remote VR team Triangular Pixels, I joined during the QA phase of Smash Hit Plunder as a Consulting Producer. I helped them kick butt by:

Helping the team organise their schedule and bugs backlog to release in October 2018 | Became the in-between with their publisher and Sony | Successfully assured funding for the teams next title, Unseen Diplomacy 2.

Evil Dead: Virtual Nightmare

Rocking it alongside Executive Producer Victorya Hollings based remotely in the UK, I was Producer with the ground team on Evil Dead: Virtual Nightmare. I killed it in how:

I concepted and designed the project | Managed a part in office, part remote team | Progressed us through QA | Released the game on the Oculus front page store | Managed marketing after release and increased engagement by an average 200% across all platforms.

When joining Blackstaff Games, this beautiful children's app DogBiscuit was in the finishing stages. I saw them to awesomeness by:

Supporting the team with QA organisation | Becoming publisher liaison | Releasing the title worldwide to a steady MAU of 16K | Securing Nominations for BAFTA, Develop and Tommi awards.

Evil Dead: Endless Nightmare

I joined InLifeSize halfway through production of 3 projects, and found a team struggling to organise and working through perpetual crunch. I ensured the release of Evil Dead: Endless Nightmare by cleaning up their act and made them a more well oiled and efficient team by:

Introducing the team to SCRUM and setting up a strict 2 week sprint system | Establishing an in house digital communication system for less interruption | Becoming the driving force behind a healthier work/life balance | Ultimately smoothing team organisation for the release of the Evil Dead: Endless Nightmare.

Games NI

Chair

In 2016 I became chair of Games NI, at the time a fledgling organisation having only existed a year. Within the next 2 years, I worked in a voluntary capacity with the aim of improving not only the strength of the local industry and opportunities for local businesses, but also the stability and diversity within the businesses themselves. I became the driving force for an entire cluster by:

Undertaking research of other clusters to model our local industry development | Organising meet ups and workshops for developers in highlighted areas of weakness | Introducing investors to the area | Establishing an online presence for the cluster | Increasing membership by 100% | Ensuring the obtainment of the nationwide creative fund Future Screens | Working towards the establishment of a game development co-working incubation space that was later fulfilled by NI Screen and Donal Phillips.

DISCO Mtl

DISCO MTL is a yearly conference held in Montreal that focuses on bringing marketing 2.0 advice to help game developers level up their projects and studio discoverability in an extremely condensed market. When designing the site, to ensure the success of the event I:

Aimed to create a clean and clear interface that gave the information to the user as elegantly as possible | Reflected the aims and goals of the conference itself in the presentation of information | Went on to create other sites for the organisation such as Demo night, with the aim of uniting the events in look and feel in relation to the organisation, but ensuring each has a distinct feel.

Altered Gene is an indie game dev studio creating a range of projects catered to a hardcore audience of players. To reach this goal, CEO Des Gayle needed a site that communicated the tone of the company in a visually direct way that also reflected the style of the target audience. I produced a stylish site were I:

Ghislaine Vaugan

Ghislaine Vaugan is a chiropractor operating in London, one of the most congested areas of the UK for business. With such aggressive competition, Ghislaine needed a site that would set her business apart from the rest, with a high professional standard of look and feel. I elevated her by:

Designing and developing a complete overhaul of her previous site | Gave focus on important information, and highlighted clear calls to action | Ensured added credibility to her business to allow her to compete effectively in the crowded London Market.

Belfast Metropolitan College

Part time Game Design, Business, and Narrative lecturer

This role has to be one of my favourites in the last few years; I had the pleasure of being a part time lecturer at the Belfast Metropolitan College, initially to teach an intro to Game Design module, but quickly picking up 3 more modules in Advanced Game Design, Intro to storytelling in Games and Games Business. I made sure my students achieved their goals by:

Creating all learning material and resources based on the most up to date practices | Delivering modules to 80+ students across two classes and catering to individual special needs | Assessing/marking student assignments | Obtained the highest pass rate of the year - with a rate of 98% per class.

Blick Studios

Private Tutor

After years of teaching teenagers and working with public sector groups, I decided to try my hand at a private class with Blick Studios. This workshop series was targeted at everyone interested in film, from professionals seeking access into the industry, to hobbyists just looking for a bit of fun. Over the course of 6 weeks, I leveled up a group of 15 people by:

Teaching them the basics in film making techniques from lighting, camera skills, to how to edit and write a script | Giving them access to real equipment and allowing them to experiment with their craft | Filming an entire short as their final project | Giving such a good course that one of the members went on to work in television themselves!

The Directory

Youth Factiliator

The Directory was a company that I supported for over 7 years, initially assisting with workshops in media skills in underfunded community areas, in the hope of getting age 12-16 year olds interested in alternative activities, later leading into direct film editing and web development work. This only ended when the company itself closed its doors. Over the years I raised community groups to new heights by:

Organising, creating and undertaking workshops in Media, Web and Games to underfunded areas across NI | Creating web sites for under represented groups | Editing promotional videos for local community projects.
